چکیده

A solid-phase enzyme immunoassay method for the measurement of total and class-specific serum antibodies to Campylobacter jejuni was developed. The test was found to be both sensitive and specific. Immunoglobulin M, G, and A antibodies were detected in about 90% of sera collected from patients recovering from Campylobacter enteritis, with the pattern of appearance and decline of these antibodies conforming to that usually seen in an acute infection. A poor antibody response was noted in patients with intermittent or prolonged enteritis. The clinical implications and diagnostic value of this test are discussed.

Two cases of Campylobacter mucosalis enteritis in children.

Two cases of Campylobacter mucosalis enteritis in children are reported. The patients recovered without antimicrobial therapy. Strains were isolated only by the feces filtration technique. In one child, bactericidal antibodies to the homologous strain were detected in a convalescent-phase serum sample. C. mucosalis should be considered a primary intestinal pathogen.

Humoral immune response against Campylobacter jejuni lipopolysaccharides in Guillain-Barré and Miller Fisher syndrome.

In this study we characterized the IgG antibodies against lipopolysaccharides (LPS) of Campylobacter jejuni in serum from patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS), C. jejuni enteritis and normal controls. In patients with GBS and MFS long-lasting titers of IgG1 and IgG3 antibodies against LPS from GBS and MFS associated C. jejuni were found. The subclass and cou...

Acute inflammatory encephalomyelitis following Campylobacter enteritis associated with high titre antiganglioside GM1 IgG antibodies.

Campylobacter enteritis is commonly associated with various forms of the Guillain-Barré syndrome but not central nervous system (CNS) inflammation. We present a case of Campylobacter enteritis associated with acute inflammatory encephalomyelitis and high titre antiganglioside GM1 IgG antibodies. The finding of antiganglioside antibodies in inflammatory demyelination of the CNS may identify aven...

Campylobacter etiology in human gastroenteritis demonstrated by antibodies to acid extract antigen.

Campylobacter antibodies of the immunoglobulin G (IgG), IgM, and IgA classes were determined by enzyme immunoassay with acid glycine extract antigen in patients and controls involved in two Campylobacter outbreaks and in 266 unselected patients with acute enteritis. The assay showed a specificity of 99% for each immunoglobulin class in sera from 200 healthy blood donors. Elevated Campylobacter ...

Serotyping of Campylobacter jejuni/coli.

Antisera were prepared from strains of Campylobacter jejuni/coli isolated from patients in six outbreaks of enteritis. Bactericidal antibodies, and agglutinating antibodies to heat-labile and heat-stable antigens, were demonstrated. These reactions were used to type a number of strains isolated from patients in each outbreak, and to distinguish 'epidemic' from 'non-epidemic' strains.
